Recently a friend came to me asking for help with a repair of their Sony WH-1000XM4 headphone with Active Noise Cancellation technology. The problem was that one ANC was activated, right speaker was making very unpleasant noises. Cleaning the buds did not help so we decided to replace the microphone and see.
The microphone in question had no actual indicator what exact part it might
be but there were indications around the internet that ROM-2235L-HD-R
could work.
The replacement was easy, a few second soldering job. The result can be seen below, only the assembly was left after that:
